The Foundation presented an exhibition project at mit space, Warsaw, addressing the representation of the female figure, its visual semiotics and the transformation of symbolic codes in Japanese prints and painting in dialogue with contemporary art.

The project ran for three weeks and combined the exhibition with a public educational programme of curator’s lectures and special viewings.

The display set classical motifs of Japanese art — ukiyo-e prints and bijin-ga subjects — against works by contemporary artists, tracing continuities of technique, colour and the representation of gender.

A representative of the Embassy of Japan in Poland visited the exhibition and noted the scholarly standard of attribution, the depth of engagement with material culture and the Foundation’s contribution to international cultural diplomacy.

A dedicated curatorial programme brought together researchers, gallerists and art advisers for professional sessions on connoisseurship and attribution, the study of sources, and the history of collecting Asian art in Europe.
